The Children description

Award-winning writer Lucy Kirkwood (Chimerica, NSFW) collaborates with director James Macdonald (Escaped Alone, The Father).

Two retired nuclear scientists in an isolated cottage by the sea as the world around them crumbles.

Together they are going to live forever on yogurt and yoga, until an old friend arrives with a frightening request.

Writer Lucy Kirkwood's previous work for the Royal Court includes NSFW. Other credits include Beauty and the Beast (National Theatre), Tinderbox (Bush Theatre) and it felt empty when the heart went at first but it is alright now, produced by Clean Break at the Arcola. Chimerica premiered at the Almeida Theatre in 2013 and subsequently transferred to the West End, earning Lucy the prestigious Best New Play at the 2014 Olivier and Evening Standard Awards.

'Kirkwood is part of a new generation of writers who are redefining their role in a changing theatre landscape.' The Guardian's Lyn Gardner.
