Chimerica description
Lucy Kirkwood's provocative new drama Chimerica was a phenomenal success earlier this year at the Almeida Theatre. It's now playing a strictly limited West End engagement from 6 August - 19 October. Lyndsey Turner directs this bravura piece of storytelling, which examines the changing fortunes of two countries whose futures will come to define our own.
The events of Chimerica begin with China's Tiananmen Square protests, which shocked the world in 1989. As tanks roll through Beijing and soldiers hammer on his hotel door, young American photojournalist Joe Schofield captures history in the making. When he discovers a cryptic message in a Beijing newspaper more than 20 years later, Joe is driven to discover the truth behind an unknown hero he captured on film.
Director Turner propels Chimerica's action at breakneck pace, and it grips from beginning to end.
Following a sold-out run at the Almeida Theatre, this record-breaking five-star hit is now in its very final weeks at the Harold Pinter Theatre. Don't leave it until it has sold out - book now.
